NEET-UG 2026 OMR Sheet Row: Supreme Court Allows Urgent Hearing

The Supreme Court has agreed to urgently hear a plea challenging an OMR answer sheet in the NEET-UG 2026 examination after the petitioner's counsel warned that the National Testing Agency (NTA) could destroy the original records upon completion of 90 days. A bench headed by the Chief Justice of India and comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi agreed to list the matter the following day. The case will be heard by a bench led by Justice P.S. Narasimha. The counsel submitted that the examination result was declared on July 16 and that the 90-day period for preserving records was due to expire, potentially jeopardising the petitioner's case.

The bench initially proposed listing the matter on Friday but agreed to an earlier hearing after the urgency was explained. It also questioned whether the petitioner had approached the Court belatedly. The counsel responded that the petitioner had pursued legal remedies through the appropriate channels, first approaching the High Court before moving the Supreme Court. The Gujarat High Court's Division Bench had dismissed the petitioner's intra-court appeal on October 12. The Court agreed to list the plea urgently, but the dispute over the OMR sheet remains to be adjudicated, the Live Law reported.
