A plea challenging the proposed NEET-PG 2026 re-examination for 2,445 candidates came up for mention before the Supreme Court on Wednesday. These candidates could not complete the postgraduate medical entrance examination due to a technical disruption at two centres in Jaipur.

A lawyer appearing in the matter told a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, that the proposed re-examination went against an earlier direction issued by the Supreme Court. The lawyer requested the court to hear the plea urgently.

The bench directed the lawyer to approach the designated bench handling NEET-related matters. It said Justice PS Narasimha heads the bench assigned to hear such cases.

“All matters concerning NEET are before the designated bench headed by Justice Narasimha. Please mention the matter before that bench, as several developments are taking place in these cases,” the bench said.

NBEMS announces NEET PG re-examination

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) announced the re-examination earlier this week for candidates who could not finish NEET-PG 2026 because of technical issues at two examination centres in Jaipur.

The disruption occurred at centres located in the Sitapura area of Jaipur. The affected candidates could not complete the examination because of a power-related technical problem.

NEET PG 2026 exam details

The NEET-PG 2026 examination took place nationwide on August 30.

Official data shows that 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the examination. Of these, 2,63,535 candidates completed the test successfully.

The remaining 2,445 candidates could not complete their examination after a power-related disruption affected two centres in Jaipur's Sitapura area.

NBEMS subsequently announced a separate examination for these candidates. The latest plea challenges that decision and seeks consideration of the issue by the Supreme Court.

New Delhi: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has opened the resignation/seat withdrawal facility for FLOAT candidates of Round 1 of the NEET UG Counselling for the academic year 2026-27.

The announcement was made through a notice issued by MCC under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The facility is specifically meant for FLOAT candidates who had earlier joined a Round 1 seat allotted through MCC counselling but now want to resign or withdraw from that seat.

According to the MCC notice, candidates can resign their joined Round 1 seat till 02 September 2026.

For candidates reconsidering their Round 1 admission, the timeline is particularly important since the benefit of resignation without security deposit forfeiture is tied to completing the process within this prescribed window.

As mentioned in the notice, the candidates should take note of the following instructions w.r.t. resignation-

1 Candidates are advised to ensure that they Resign / Withdraw their Round-1 seat by logging into their account and generate Seat Withdrawal slip online, failing which the resignation will be treated as ‘Null & Void’.

2 The resignation given within the stipulated time mentioned above will be without Forfeiture of Security Deposit.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) successfully conducted the NEET-PG 2026 examination today, 30 August 2026, across the country with comprehensive logistical, technological, security and manpower arrangements to ensure a fair, secure and seamless examination process.

The examination was scheduled for 2,73,096 candidates at 1,111 examination centres across 339 cities, covering all 36 States and Union Territories. A total of 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the examination, with the examination successfully completed for approximately 2,63,535 candidates.

The nationwide examination was supported by extensive real-time monitoring and stringent security measures. A total of 2,527 faculty members were appointed as Independent Appraisers to oversee the conduct of the examination. In addition, more than 700 senior faculty members, including Deans, Directors, Medical Superintendents and senior professors, were deployed as Flying Squad members.

To strengthen coordination and monitoring, 16 NBEMS Regional Command Centres were made operational across the country.

The examination centres were also placed under live CCTV surveillance, which was continuously monitored from the NBEMS Command Centre at its Headquarters in Dwarka. A dedicated team of 190 personnel from NBEMS and TCS was deployed for real-time surveillance and monitoring.

At the dedicated Command Centre at NBEMS Headquarters, officials from NBEMS, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, BEL, ECIL and TCS maintained close and continuous oversight of the examination process throughout the day.

As part of measures to further strengthen examination security and prevent impersonation, Aadhaar-based authentication of candidates was successfully undertaken at examination centres. Government agencies extended their full support towards the secure and orderly conduct of the examination.

While the examination was successfully completed for the overwhelming majority of candidates nationwide, an unforeseen technical disruption occurred at iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura Centres, Jaipur, Rajasthan (TC Nos. 41682 and 41683), where the examination could not be completed for 2,445 candidates due to internal power supply issues at the test centres, attributable to M/s TCS Ltd., the examination conducting agency.

NBEMS has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the affected candidates. To ensure that all affected candidates are provided a fair and equitable opportunity to appear in NEET-PG 2026, examination for these 2,445 candidates will be conducted on 05 September 2026 (Saturday) at 03:00 PM in Jaipur, Rajasthan.

The successful conduct of the examination across 1,111 centres in 339 cities reflects the extensive coordination among examination authorities, medical institutions, faculty, security agencies, technology teams and other stakeholders involved in the nationwide exercise.
