The school conducts a mobile dental care program, which travels to dentally-underserved areas throughout the city and interiors to provide critically needed dental services. It sponsors free oral health and oral cancer screenings for thousands of residents annually and has established a global outreach model that delivers essential care to populations in need. Established in 1990, named, Dr D Y Patil Dental College & Hospital was originally affiliated to the University of Mumbai and then to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Nashik (MUHS), but now is a constituent school of the D Y Patil Deemed to be University since 2002 & the name is changed to D Y Patil Deemed to be University School of Dentistry.

Dr. Gaurang Mistry has specialised in Prosthodontics. He has more than twenty years of teaching, administrative, research and clinical experience to his credit.
He completed his graduation from Nair Hospital Dental College in 1995. Thereafter, he pursued his post graduation in Prosthodontics from Pad. D.Y. Patil Dental College and hospital, Navi Mumbai in 2005.
He has been associated with the DY Patil Deemed to be University for more than 19 years .
He is a member and president elect of the Indian Prosthodontic Society Mumbai Navi Mumbai State Branch.
He has constantly promoted curricular, co-curricular and extracurricular activities in the institute for overall development of the students and staff. He has many research papers to his credit and has guided UG, PG students as well as PhD scholars
