About SRI RAMACHANDRA DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL

Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (SRIHER), formerly Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, is a reputed private, nonprofit Deemed University, in Chennai, India. Its academic excellence and integrated infrastructure are the foundation of its long standing legacy. Established in 1985, SRIHER was conferred the status of Deemed University in September 1994 by the Government of India. In August 2018, the university was officially renamed, and recognized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development as Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research.

About DR. H. THAMIZHCHELVAN

Dr. Thamizhchelvan is currently the Dean of Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Hospital and heading the Department of Oral Pathology, SRDC.

 

Dr. Thamizh completed his BDS in 1993 from Annamalai University and his MDS (Oral Pathology) in 2003 from SRIHER. Sir also completed his FADI and FICD in 2019.

Dr. Thamizh is a visionary leader and pioneer in oral cancer, oral biology, saliva research, dermatopathology and artificial intelligence. Currently, Dr. Thamizh is working on three funded projects totaling about two crores that focus on the field of AI and Oral cancer.

With over 25 years of experience in academic and research leadership roles, he has made significant contributions to these areas of research. Dr. Thamizh has more than 30 publications to his name, guiding more than 5 PhD candidates and 15 postgraduates.

He was the national convenor for Dental Council India – competency-based curriculum changes for basic medical sciences.

He is also an active participant in voluntary work, community service and governance work. Dr. Thamizh organized Smile Chennai and officially entered the pages of the Asia and India Book of Records in 2017. Dr. Thamizh’s work has been widely recognized and he has received numerous awards and honours for his contributions to these fields. He was the convenor of 3 projects of SRIHER and Rotary Club; 1. mobile cardiac unit screening; 2. Mobile women cancer screening where underprivileged women will be screened for breast, uterine oral cancer; 3. Free dialysis project.

He continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of researchers and leaders in these areas of study.
