First convocation of AIIMS Rajkot | Technology a big boost to medical field, but nothing can replace human empathy: President Murmu

(2026-04-15)

Those present at the ceremony included Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel and Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya.

AIIMS

On the national role of all the AIIMS institutions, the President of India said, "It is important that the health of the people is maintained to achieve the aim of Viksit Bharat by 2047."

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday said latest technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics and precision medicine will help doctors diagnose patients better, but nothing can replace human empathy in healthcare.

She was speaking at the first convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rajkot on Monday.
“You are entering the medical field at a time when there is a lot of technical development taking place. AI, robotics, precision medicine and digital medical services are changing the field. By using the latest technologies, not only will you update your knowledge, but also be able to diagnose patients better. But nothing can replace human empathy in healthcare. Your kind words, your smile and your patience in listening to patients is very effective,” Murmu said, addressing the young doctors.

“Being a good doctor is a big thing. But being a doctor with ethics, compassion and other human values is even greater,” said Murmu, adding that a sensitive doctor can bring great change in the society.

The President said, “Saurashtra is home to holy sites such as Somnath and Dwarkadhish. The region is also associated with the birth and life of Mahatma Gandhi as well. It is not only a site of heritage, but also a treasure trove holding the memories of the struggle for independence. It is expected of everyone associated with the AIIMS Rajkot that they emulate Bhagwan Shri Krishna’s route of karma and work for the people.”

On healthcare challenges in Saurashtra, she said, “The Saurashtra region is one which has varied geographical areas and rural populations. It presents unique challenges. There is a need to work on improvement in maternal and child health, and sickle cell. AIIMS Rajkot needs to turn these challenges into opportunities. I’m happy to know that the institution is contributing to medical services, tele-medicine and community medicine and education awareness.”

On the national role of all the AIIMS institutions, the President of India said, “It is important that the health of the people is maintained to achieve the aim of Viksit Bharat by 2047. The Government of India has taken many steps in this direction. But these efforts get support when all stakeholders work together. The role of institutions of national importance like AIIMS is even more crucial. They need to establish new heights in medical services and research and innovation and show the way to the national healthcare framework.”

Those present at the ceremony included Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel and Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya.

AIIMS Delhi hosts global collaboration to bridge gap between medicine and technology

(2026-04-11)

New Delhi: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has brought together engineers and clinicians from leading global institutions, including IIT Delhi and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), to jointly develop innovative solutions for pressing healthcare challenges.

The initiative also brings together researchers from UiT The Arctic University of Norway, the University of Oslo, the University of Southampton, and SINTEF, reflecting a growing international push to combine medical expertise with cutting-edge engineering research for improved patient care, diagnosis, and treatment.

Speaking to Tribune India, Dr Vivek Tandon from AIIMS’s Department of Neurosurgery said, “The aim of organising this workshop is to bring engineers and doctors together and create engineering innovations that would actually help the doctors.” He emphasised that clinical needs must guide technological design. “If I want a specific camera to perform a neurosurgery, then it should be a doctor who sits with an engineer to explain what sort of need the camera must fulfil,” Dr Tandon said. He added that such an approach allows both sides to identify and build targeted healthcare technologies.

The workshop is being organised under the chairmanship of IIT Delhi’s DS Mehta, while Dr Balpreet Singh Ahluwalia from UiT The Arctic University of Norway is co-chairing the programme. From MIT, Professor Peter So, an expert in biological engineering and multiphoton microscopy, is among the key international participants.

The discussions opened with a fundamental concern in clinical care. Dr Dipak Sapkota, a researcher from the University of Oslo, highlighted that the most important question patients ask is not what disease they have, but how long they are going to survive, pointing to a gap that continues to challenge modern medicine.

He highlighted challenges in managing oral leukoplakia, a potentially cancerous condition that is difficult to predict and often requires repeated biopsies. “We don’t know what to do; at times in oral cancer, we just wait until the patient dies,” he said, underscoring the urgent need for better predictive tools.

Dr Sapkota stressed that no single technology could solve such complex problems. Instead, he advocated combining clinical data with optical spectral analysis, AI-based imaging, and advanced approaches like single-cell and spatial omics to better identify high-risk patients.

Similar gaps are being addressed through AI in dermatology. Dr Somesh Gupta from AIIMS’s dermatology department said skin diseases generate the highest number of health-related queries globally, yet nearly three billion people lack access to specialists. “There are countries with only two or three specialists,” he said. He pointed out that most datasets used to train AI models are skewed towards lighter skin tones, while a larger share of the global population has darker or Asian skin, reports Tribune India.

To address this, his team is developing India-specific AI models in collaboration with partners, including Google Health, aimed at helping frontline healthcare workers identify and triage skin diseases more effectively.

The ophthalmology department at AIIMS showcased an AI-powered system called MadhuNetraAI, designed to detect and grade diabetic retinopathy. The tool can be deployed in community settings and used by trained health workers to identify patients needing urgent referral.

With a reported sensitivity of 98% and specificity of 96%, the system helps reduce unnecessary hospital visits while ensuring timely treatment for high-risk patients.

Experts also discussed public health issues, noting that tobacco warning labels have limited behavioural impact, while indirect advertising continues to influence consumption patterns in subtle ways.

The discussions are part of the ongoing ‘Photonics 4 Clinics’ workshop at AIIMS, which focuses on the use of light-based technologies combined with artificial intelligence to detect biological changes and improve clinical decision-making.

NEET UG for BDS – Complete Guide for Dental Admission in India

(2026-04-28)

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) is the only entrance examination for students who want to pursue Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in India. Whether a student aims for a government dental college or a private institution, qualifying NEET UG is mandatory. As per current regulations, no college in India can offer admission to BDS without a valid NEET score, making it the single gateway for dental education across the country .

At Medical Study India, we guide students through the complete NEET UG process, helping them understand eligibility, admission procedures, and counselling so they can secure the best possible dental college in India.

To appear for NEET UG for BDS, students must have completed their 12th class with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects. A minimum of 50% marks is generally required for general category candidates, with relaxation for reserved categories. Additionally, candidates must be at least 17 years of age at the time of admission. These eligibility criteria ensure that students have the required academic foundation to pursue a professional dental course .

The NEET UG examination plays a crucial role in determining admission, as students are allotted seats based on their rank and score. After qualifying the exam, candidates must participate in centralized counselling conducted through All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota systems. During this process, students select their preferred colleges, and seats are allotted based on merit, category, and availability. This transparent and merit-based system ensures fair admission across all dental colleges in India.

BDS admission through NEET is highly competitive, and the required score varies depending on the type of college. Government dental colleges usually require higher scores, while private colleges may have comparatively lower cutoffs. However, qualifying NEET is compulsory in all cases, as it is the only accepted entrance exam for dental courses in India .

The BDS course itself is a five-year program, including one year of internship, where students gain clinical experience in dental treatments and patient care. NEET acts as the first step toward entering this professional field, opening the door to a wide range of career opportunities in dentistry.

Choosing the right guidance during NEET preparation and counselling is extremely important. At Medical Study India, students receive expert support in selecting colleges, understanding cutoff trends, and completing the admission process smoothly. With proper planning and guidance, students can secure admission in top dental colleges and build a successful career in dentistry.

NEET PG (NEET MDS) – Complete Guide for MDS Admission in India

(2026-04-28)

NEET MDS is the national-level entrance examination required for admission into Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) programs in India. It is the only recognized exam for postgraduate dental courses and is essential for students who wish to specialize in dentistry after completing their BDS degree. Through NEET MDS, candidates can secure admission in government, private, and deemed dental colleges across the country.

At Medical Study India, we provide complete assistance to dental graduates preparing for NEET MDS, helping them understand eligibility, specialization choices, and counselling procedures to achieve their career goals.

To be eligible for NEET MDS, candidates must have completed a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from a recognized institution. They must also complete a one-year compulsory internship and be registered with the Dental Council of India or a State Dental Council. These requirements ensure that only qualified dental graduates can apply for postgraduate specialization .

The NEET MDS exam evaluates a candidate’s knowledge and understanding of dental subjects studied during BDS. Based on the exam score, candidates participate in counselling, where they can choose their preferred specialization and college. Admission is granted strictly on merit, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.

MDS offers a wide range of specializations such as Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, and Conservative Dentistry. Each specialization allows students to gain expertise in a specific area of dental care, enhancing their professional skills and career opportunities.

The competition for MDS seats is high, especially in government colleges, where fees are lower and demand is significantly higher. Therefore, proper preparation and guidance are essential to achieve a good rank. After completing MDS, candidates can work as specialist dentists, join hospitals, enter teaching, or start their own advanced dental practice.

Medical Study India plays a crucial role in guiding students through the NEET MDS journey, from exam preparation advice to counselling support. With the right strategy and expert assistance, candidates can secure admission in top dental colleges and build a successful career as a dental specialist.

Top Dental Colleges in India Based on NIRF Ranking

(2026-04-28)

Choosing the right dental college is one of the most important decisions for students who want to pursue BDS or MDS in India. With hundreds of dental colleges available across the country, it can be difficult to identify the best institutions. This is where the National Institutional Ranking Framework plays a crucial role. NIRF is an official ranking system introduced by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, which evaluates colleges and universities based on multiple academic and institutional parameters.

At Medical Study India, we help students understand and use NIRF rankings to make informed decisions about their dental education. These rankings are widely trusted because they are based on factors such as teaching quality, research output, infrastructure, graduation outcomes, and overall reputation. By referring to NIRF rankings, students can shortlist colleges that offer high-quality education and strong career opportunities.

The top dental colleges in India, as per NIRF rankings, include some of the most reputed institutions known for their academic excellence and advanced clinical training. Leading institutes such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, and Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences are consistently ranked among the best in the country. These colleges provide modern infrastructure, experienced faculty, and strong clinical exposure, which are essential for building a successful career in dentistry.

NIRF rankings are determined using several important parameters, including teaching and learning resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception. These factors ensure a comprehensive evaluation of institutions, helping students compare colleges beyond just popularity or location. However, while NIRF rankings are highly reliable, students should also consider other factors such as fee structure, location, patient flow, and personal preferences before making a final decision.

Admission to top dental colleges in India is primarily based on entrance examinations such as NEET UG for BDS and NEET MDS or INI-CET for postgraduate courses. Due to high competition, students aiming for top-ranked colleges must secure a strong rank and participate actively in counselling processes. Government colleges generally have lower fees and higher competition, while private institutions may offer more seats with higher tuition costs.

Medical Study India provides complete guidance to students in selecting the best dental colleges based on NIRF rankings, NEET scores, and individual career goals. From understanding rankings to participating in counselling and finalizing college choices, our platform ensures that students make the right decisions at every stage of their admission journey.

Selecting a top-ranked dental college can significantly impact a student’s academic experience and future career. By using NIRF rankings along with expert guidance from Medical Study India, students can confidently choose the right institution and take the first step toward a successful career in dentistry.

Counselling Updates – Latest BDS & MDS Counselling News in India

(2026-04-25)

Counselling is one of the most crucial stages in the admission process for BDS and MDS courses in India. After qualifying the entrance examinations such as NEET UG for BDS and NEET MDS for postgraduate dental courses, students must participate in the counselling process to secure admission in their preferred colleges. This process involves multiple steps including registration, choice filling, seat allotment, document verification, and final reporting to the allotted institution.

At Medical Study India, we provide the latest counselling updates and complete guidance to help students stay informed throughout the admission process. Counselling schedules, registration deadlines, seat allotment results, and round-wise updates are constantly changing, and missing any important update can result in losing a valuable seat. That is why staying updated with accurate and timely information is extremely important for every student.

The counselling process in India is conducted through centralized systems. For All India Quota (AIQ) seats, counselling is managed by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), while state quota counselling is handled by respective state authorities. This system ensures a transparent and merit-based allocation of seats across government, private, and deemed dental colleges.

Counselling generally takes place in multiple rounds, including Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and Mop-Up or Stray Vacancy rounds. During each round, students have the opportunity to select or upgrade their college choices based on their rank and availability of seats. The process requires careful planning, as wrong choice filling or missing deadlines can affect the final admission outcome.

Students must also keep track of important counselling steps such as registration deadlines, choice locking dates, seat allotment results, and reporting timelines. Proper documentation is equally important, as candidates must present all required certificates during verification. Any mistake or missing document can lead to cancellation of admission, even after seat allotment.

Through Medical Study India, students receive reliable counselling updates and expert guidance to navigate the entire process smoothly. From understanding counselling rounds to selecting the right colleges based on rank and budget, our platform helps students make informed decisions at every stage.

Staying updated with counselling information is essential for securing admission in top dental colleges in India. With timely updates and proper guidance from Medical Study India, students can confidently participate in counselling and successfully achieve their career goals in dentistry.

NEET UG 2026: NTA warns against ‘paper leak’ claims

(2026-04-20)

Taking cognisance of the issue, the Agency has advised students to beware of the fraudsters spreading rumours about NEET papers on Telegram and other platforms

With the national-level medical entrance exam just weeks away, and amid recurring concerns over paper leak allegations in previous years, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has cautioned NEET UG 2026 aspirants against fraudulent social media channels, particularly on Telegram, claiming to offer access to exam papers. Acting on multiple complaints, the agency has warned candidates against falling for such claims and said strict legal action is being initiated against those spreading misinformation.

TA posted on the microblogging site, X, “Beware of fraudsters spreading rumours about NEET papers on Telegram and other platforms. Do not fall prey to such scams. Rely only on official updates from the NTA website and verified social media handles. Strict legal action is being taken, and such channels are being blocked.”

— National Testing Agency (@NTA_Exams) April 18, 2026

The NEET UG 2026 (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate) is the single national-level medical entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, BSc Nursing, BVSc & AH and other undergraduate medical courses across India. NEET UG 2026 will be held on May 3, 2026 (Sunday) in a single shift.

At the same time, the NTA in another post on X has asked students to bring valid ID proof on the exam day. Without ID proof, students will not be allowed to enter the examination hall. At the same time, NTA’s exam centre will provide pens to students to fill the OMR sheets; NEET UG aspirants have to rely on that. On the dress code, NTA has asked students to wear simple, light clothes. The Agency has further asked students to avoid full sleeveless clothes, accessories and heavy items.

Is There An Upper Age Limit For The NEET-UG?

(2026-04-12)

What is the NEET-UG?

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), also known as NEET-UG, is a national-level entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses in India.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), established by the ministry of education, Government of India, conducts this exam to streamline and regulate the medical admission process across the country.

Aspirants who wish to pursue health-related courses -- including MBBS (allopathy), BDS (dental), AYUSH (Indian systems of medicine) and veterinary science (BVSc) -- in India or abroad must register for and qualify in the NEET-UG.

Why is the NEET-UG so important?

The NEET-UG replaced various state level entrance exams in India, including the AIIMS and the JIPMER, reducing stress and corruption.

Every year approximately 20 lakh students from across India register to appear for the NEET-UG, hoping to qualify for the 1.2 lakh MBBS seats (which are almost equally divided between government and private colleges).

Despite the competition, it provides a level playing field, ensuring only qualified candidates gain admission to medical schools.

The NEET-UG offers a uniform, transparent and fair process (15 per cent All India quota, 85 per cent state quota), reducing reliance on unpredictable state-level exams.
