Is There An Upper Age Limit For The NEET-UG?

(2026-04-12)

What is the NEET-UG?

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate), also known as NEET-UG, is a national-level entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses in India.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), established by the ministry of education, Government of India, conducts this exam to streamline and regulate the medical admission process across the country.

Aspirants who wish to pursue health-related courses -- including MBBS (allopathy), BDS (dental), AYUSH (Indian systems of medicine) and veterinary science (BVSc) -- in India or abroad must register for and qualify in the NEET-UG.

Why is the NEET-UG so important?

The NEET-UG replaced various state level entrance exams in India, including the AIIMS and the JIPMER, reducing stress and corruption.

Every year approximately 20 lakh students from across India register to appear for the NEET-UG, hoping to qualify for the 1.2 lakh MBBS seats (which are almost equally divided between government and private colleges).

Despite the competition, it provides a level playing field, ensuring only qualified candidates gain admission to medical schools.

The NEET-UG offers a uniform, transparent and fair process (15 per cent All India quota, 85 per cent state quota), reducing reliance on unpredictable state-level exams.

When is the NEET-UG 2026?

The NTA conducts the NEET exam every year in May.

This year, the NEET-UG will be held on May 3, 2026.

What courses can you apply for after the NEET-UG?

Candidates who qualify in the NEET can pursue the following courses:

  • MBBS (bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery)
  • BDS (bachelor of dental surgery)
  • BAMS (bachelor of Ayurvedic medicine and surgery)
  • BUMS (bachelor of Unani medicine and surgery)
  • BSMS (bachelor of Siddha medicine and surgery)
  • BHMS (bachelor of homeopathic medicine and surgery)
  • Other allied health-related courses

Who can apply for the NEET-UG?

Aspirants who have completed 17 years as on or before December 31, 2026, can apply.

Is there an age limit for the NEET-UG?

The minimum age is 17 years, but there is no upper age limit.

Can students from non-science backgrounds apply?

To be eligible for the NEET-UG, you have to complete your HSc/pre-degree course (PDC) with physics, chemistry and biology/biotechnology along with English from duly recognised boards with any number of attempts (exception AIIMS, AFMC).

General category candidates need to score a minimum of 50 per cent, while SC/ST/OBC candidates must achieve a minimum of 40 per cent.

Can NRI/foreign students appear for the NEET-UG?

Foreign nationals, overseas citizens of India (OCIs), persons of Indian origin (PIOs), non-resident Indians (NRIs) and PIOs are eligible to apply.

How to register for the NEET-UG

Eligible aspirants need to apply for the NEET exam online by visiting the NEET exam website.

What documents are needed to register for the NEET-UG?

The following records need to be attached while applying for the NEET.

  • Passport-size photograph
  • Scanned signature
  • Scanned thumb impression
  • Class 10 marksheet
  • Address proof

The fee structure for the application form is based on the category.

Can you make changes in the NEET registration form after applying?

A few details can be corrected in the application form after submission of the application online. However, not all the fields are editable.

If your details are not uploaded properly online -- if the photos are blurred or unclear, etc -- you will be notified by the authorities.

What is the syllabus for the NEET-UG?

A prescribed syllabus has been given by the examining authority (which is available on the website).

The exam includes chapters in physics, chemistry and biology.

The chapters are covered in classes 11 and 12 in the NCERT curriculum.

There will be multiple choice questions (MCQs).

Exam will be conducted in pen and paper mode.

There will be 180 questions -- 45 in physics; 45 in chemistry; 90 in biology -- for a total of 720 marks.

Each question carries four marks for the right answer.

Is there negative marking in the NEET-UG?

Yes. There is negative marking in the NEET-UG.

For every incorrect answer, one mark will be deducted.

For unanswered questions, no marks will be awarded.

Can I attempt the NEET-UG in a regional language?

Candidates can attempt the exam in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Odia, Assamese, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Punjabi and Urdu.

How are the NEET-UG scores calculated?

The maximum score in NEET-UG is 720 marks.

Based on the total marks, candidates are assigned an All India Rank (AIR), which determines their eligibility for medical college admissions.

Since the NEET is a nationwide examination, there are two types of counselling for the admissions:

1. All India quota

2. State quota

After the NEET exam results are announced, the medical counselling committee (MCC) and state counselling committee authorities will release the category-wise NEET cut-off for admission.

NEET PG 2025-26 : Supreme Court To Hear Pleas Challenging Cut-off Reduction On April 28

(2026-04-08)

The Supreme Court will hear the batch of pleas challenging reduction in the cut-off percentile for NEET-PG 2025-26 on April 28, 2026. On the previous date, a bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe had said it would examine whether the sharp reduction in the qualifying percentile for NEET-PG 2025-26 affects standards in postgraduate medical education. Today, Senior Advocate Gopal Sankarnarayanan, for the petitioners, submitted that sufficient number of students qualified NEET PG to fill all available seats without necessitating a reduction in cutoff. However, the available qualified candidates are unable to take admission in the vacant seats because of high fees, he said.

Senior Advocate DS Naidu, for a candidate supporting the reduction in NEET PG cutoff, supported the Centre's reasoning that cutoff reduction will not harm the quality of medical education as all candidates have to clear the MBBS qualification test. However, the Court did not conduct a detailed hearing today and decided to hear the matter on April 28. Background The challenge arises from the January 13, 2026 notice issued by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences reducing the minimum qualifying percentile cut-off for counselling of the third round of NEET-PG 2025-26.

NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage for 2026

(2026-04-05)

As per the NEET Biology Chapter-wise weightage 2025, Class 11 Biology had 18 easy, 16 medium, and 6 difficult questions; Class 12 Biology had 18 easy, 19 medium, and 13 difficult questions.

NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage is one of the most important factors every NEET aspirant should understand before building a serious preparation plan for the 2026 exam. If you want better marks, smarter revision, and stronger topic prioritisation, studying NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage is not optional anymore. It tells you which chapters have repeatedly produced questions, which units carry greater scoring potential, and how to balance Botany and Zoology across Class 11 and Class 12.

For NEET aspirants targeting high scores, NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage is not just a list of chapters. It is a strategic map. It shows where the paper is dense, where recurring concepts appear, and how exam-setters distribute the Biology section from year to year. By studying the NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage, students can move from random preparation to targeted preparation.

This article gives a detailed look at NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage using the Chapter-wise distribution data for NEET UG 2024 and NEET UG 2025. Along with the chapter tables, this article also examines the difficulty of the NEET 2026 Biology exam, helping students understand not just what to study but also how tough the paper can feel, chapter by chapter. The goal is simple: help you use NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage and NEET 2026 Biology difficulty trends to prepare with far more clarity for the 2026 exam.

Why NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage Matters for 2026

The Biology section in NEET remains the backbone of a strong overall score. Since it contributes a very large portion of the paper, even small improvements in Biology accuracy can create a major jump in total marks. That is exactly why NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage matters so much.

When students analyse NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage, they can:

  • Identify the highest-return chapters
  • Prioritise revision based on actual exam patterns
  • understand the Class 11 and Class 12 balance
  • separate Botany-heavy areas from Zoology-heavy areas
  • prepare for both factual and concept-linked questions
  • anticipate NEET 2026 Biology difficulty with more realism

A strong preparation plan for 2026 must combine NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage with question style, chapter recurrence, and NEET 2026 Biology difficulty signals from recent years. Looking at 2024 and 2025 together gives a much clearer picture than studying one year in isolation.

NEET Biology 2024 Chapter-wise Difficulty

The NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage for 2024 shows a balanced paper structure. In NEET 2024 Biology, Botany had 27 questions from Class 11 and 23 from Class 12. Zoology also had 27 questions from Class 11 and 23 from Class 12. This indicates equal representation across Botany and Zoology, along with balanced class-wise distribution.
The paper also included 45 single-correct questions, 13 multiple-correct questions, 2 assertion-reasoning questions, 10 statement-type questions, and 30 match-the-column questions. These patterns are highly useful for evaluating NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage and estimating the difficulty of NEET 2026 Biology.

The same document also gives a difficulty split for 2024:

  • Botany: Easy 34%, Medium 52%, Difficult 14%
  • Zoology: Easy 16%, Medium 70%, Difficult 14%

This is a key indicator of the NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage for 2026 and difficulty. It suggests that extremely difficult questions did not dominate Biology, but the medium-level share was substantial, especially in Zoology. Students preparing for NEET 2026 Biology difficulty should not assume Biology will be purely memory-based. Medium-difficulty application and interpretation continue to matter.

NEET Biology 2025 Difficulty

The NEET Biology Chapter-wise weightage 2025 details the question distribution for Class 11 Biology and Class 12, along with difficulty counts. In Class 11 Biology, there were 40 questions, while in Class 12 Biology, there were 50. For Class 11 Biology, 18 questions were easy, 16 medium, and 6 difficult. For Class 12 Biology, 18 were easy, 19 were medium, and 13 were difficult. The overall class-wise distribution of Biology was 55.6% for Class 12 and 44.4% for Class 11.

These figures matter immensely for NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage because they show that recent Biology papers continue to reward students who prepare deeply across both classes, but with a slightly stronger presence from Class 12. They also matter for NEET 2026 Biology difficulty because the Class 12 section in 2025 had a visibly larger difficulty share than Class 11. That means the difficulty of the NEET 2026 Biology exam may depend heavily on how well students handle genetics, biotechnology, reproduction, and ecology-related topics from Class 12.

This comparison is exactly why NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage should be studied over multiple years. Some chapters remain consistently strong, while others fluctuate. The most stable and high-value pattern appears around inheritance, molecular genetics, biotechnology, reproduction, human health, and core morphology/cell chapters.

NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage 2026: What recent data suggests

Many students search only for chapter counts, but NEET 2026 Biology is equally important. Weightage alone does not tell the full story. You also need to know how questions are likely to feel in the exam hall. From the 2024 data, Botany had 34% easy, 52% medium, and 14% difficult questions, while Zoology had 16% easy, 70% medium, and 14% difficult. From the 2025 analysis, Class 11 Biology had 18 easy, 16 medium, and 6 difficult questions; Class 12 Biology had 18 easy, 19 medium, and 13 difficult questions. This means the NEET 2026 Biology difficulty is likely to remain moderate overall, but with a meaningful share of medium- and difficult-level questions from concept-heavy chapters. In practical terms:

  • NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage may feel tougher in genetics and biotechnology if conceptual linking increases.
  • NEET 2026 Biology difficulty may rise in Class 12 chapters because recent patterns show stronger difficulty concentration there.
  • NEET 2026 Biology difficulty is unlikely to be solved by rote learning alone.
  • NEET 2026 Biology difficulty may especially test students through statement-based, match-the-column, and concept-integration formats.

So while NEET Biology Chapter-wise Weightage tells you where questions come from, NEET 2026 Biology difficulty tells you how deep your understanding must be.

Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey today informed in Lok Sabha that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs is implementing Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) Scheme with the objective of providing quality education to Scheduled Tribe (ST) children in their own socio-cultural environment. To improve the success rate of EMRS students in competitive examinations, various initiatives have been undertaken like bridge courses, remedial classes and academic mentoring. These are provided to support students with learning gaps and ensure smooth transition across grades. Career counselling sessions are conducted to provide clarity on higher education and career paths. Special coaching programs like NEET/JEE preparation in partnership with reputed institutions are provided to Class XI & XII students.

Under CSR, three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) have been established for IIT-JEE
and NEET preparation which are at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Chintapalle in Andhra Pradesh, and Chankapur in Maharashtra. These centres offer structured offline coaching to meritorious students from the EMRS ecosystem.

In addition, the ENABLE program has been launched to provide online coaching support for IIT-JEE and NEET preparation to students enrolled in science stream in EMRSs across the country.

During 2024-25, 219 EMRS students qualified IIT-JEE (Main), 34 qualified IIT-JEE (Advanced), and 344 qualified the NEET examination, which indicates positive learning outcomes.
